ClearBounce vs Kickbox: An Honest Comparison (2026)

August 2, 2026 9 min read Comparison

Kickbox is one of the most established names in email verification. It has been around far longer than we have, it is SOC 2 certified, and it has a genuinely good reputation among deliverability people. If you are weighing it against ClearBounce, you are comparing a mature incumbent with a newer challenger, and the honest answer is that the right choice depends on which two or three things matter most to you.

Full transparency: we built ClearBounce, so we are not neutral. What we can do is keep every number in this post checkable. Kickbox’s prices come from their public pricing page, their credit expiry from their own Master Services Agreement, and ours from our pricing page and terms. All figures were read on 2 August 2026 and may change — check both before you buy.

Pricing, in full

This is the clearest difference between the two, so here is the whole ladder rather than a flattering slice of it.

Volume ClearBounce (pay-as-you-go) ClearBounce (monthly) Kickbox
1,000$4$3.20$10
5,000$17.50$14$40
10,000$30$24$70
50,000$125$100$275
100,000$200$160$500
250,000$375$300$1,100
500,000$625$500$1,800
1,000,000$1,000$800$2,999

Pay-as-you-go with ClearBounce works out 57% to 67% cheaper than Kickbox at every tier on the table. On a monthly plan the gap is wider still. At a million addresses the difference is roughly $2,000 for the same job.

That is a large gap and it deserves an explanation rather than a victory lap. Kickbox is priced like an enterprise vendor: certification, consulting, a long track record and a support organisation are all inside that number. We are priced like a challenger, because that is what we are. Whether the premium is worth it is a real question, not a rhetorical one — and for some buyers the answer is yes.

The credit expiry difference

This one catches people out, and it is worth more than it first appears.

Kickbox’s Master Services Agreement states that verification credits expire one year from the date of purchase. Buy a large discounted block, use two thirds of it, and the remainder is gone on the anniversary. ClearBounce credits do not expire — our terms say so, and there is no expiry logic in the product to enforce one.

It matters most for exactly the buyer who is drawn to bulk discounts: agencies that clean client lists in unpredictable bursts, or a company that buys a big block once and then verifies as lists arrive. If your usage is steady and predictable, a one-year window is harmless. If it is lumpy, an expiring credit balance quietly raises your effective price per verification above the number on the pricing page.

Where Kickbox is genuinely better

Three differences run in Kickbox’s favour, and pretending otherwise would make the rest of this post worthless.

They do not charge for unknown results

When Kickbox cannot reach a definitive answer, it refunds the credit. ClearBounce charges for those verifications, with narrow exceptions where the provider blocked the check outright. On a list with a lot of unreachable mail servers this is a real difference in what you actually pay, and it is a fairer policy than ours. We say so plainly on our own terminology page rather than burying it.

SOC 2 certification

Kickbox is SOC 2 certified. We are not. Both of us are GDPR compliant and we will sign a data-processing agreement, but if your security review has SOC 2 as a hard requirement, that decides the question before price enters into it. Do not let anyone talk you out of a procurement requirement.

Human deliverability consulting

Kickbox sells deliverability consulting and audits alongside the software — actual people who will look at your sending programme. We ship tools instead: a spam-score test, blocklist monitoring, and the analysis inside them. Tools are cheaper and available at 3am. A consultant can tell you your entire acquisition strategy is the problem. Those are not substitutes for each other.

Where ClearBounce is genuinely better

Price, at every volume

Covered above. It is the headline reason people switch to us, and the table is the argument.

Credits that wait for you

Also covered above. No expiry, and a 30-day money-back guarantee on top.

A monthly plan, if you want one

Kickbox sells credit packs. We sell those too, but we also sell monthly subscriptions at a lower unit rate for teams that verify continuously and would rather have a predictable line item than a purchasing decision every quarter.

Form protection and deliverability tools in the same account

Two things ship with a ClearBounce account that are not part of a Kickbox subscription. Shield is a drop-in widget that validates addresses on your signup forms as they are typed, so bad addresses never enter the database in the first place — a different job from cleaning a list after the fact. Deliverability Kit scores a real email you send us out of ten and watches your sending IPs and domains against blocklists, alerting you when something changes.

We report catch-all as what it is

A catch-all domain accepts mail for every address, existing or not, so no verifier can confirm an individual mailbox behind one without sending. We report those as risky rather than rounding them up to deliverable. It makes our headline deliverable percentage look worse than some competitors’, and we think it is the right call — see our guide to catch-all addresses for what to do with them.

Who should choose Kickbox

  • Your security review requires SOC 2 certification.
  • You want human deliverability consulting, not just software.
  • Your lists are heavy with unreachable servers and the refund-on-unknown policy is worth more to you than the lower headline price.
  • You are an enterprise buyer for whom vendor maturity is itself a purchasing criterion. That is a legitimate position and Kickbox has more history than we do.

Who should choose ClearBounce

  • Cost per verification is a real constraint — you are paying roughly a third of the price for the same core job.
  • Your verification volume is lumpy and you do not want a balance expiring on an anniversary you have forgotten.
  • You want to stop bad addresses at the signup form as well as clean the list behind it.
  • You want deliverability testing and blocklist monitoring in the same place as verification, without a separate engagement.
  • You would rather be told an address is uncertain than be told it is fine.

The bottom line

Kickbox is a good product from a company that has earned its reputation. If SOC 2 or consulting is on your list, buy Kickbox and do not think twice.

If they are not, the comparison comes down to arithmetic: the same volume of verification costs roughly a third as much with us, the credits do not expire, and the account includes form protection and deliverability monitoring that Kickbox charges for separately or does not offer. That is the case, and the table above is the evidence for it.

Frequently asked questions

Is ClearBounce cheaper than Kickbox?

Yes, at every published tier. Kickbox charges $10 for 1,000 verifications, $70 for 10,000, $500 for 100,000 and $2,999 for a million. ClearBounce charges $4, $30, $200 and $1,000 for the same volumes on pay-as-you-go, which is roughly 57–67% less. Monthly subscription rates are lower again. Both sets of prices were taken from the two providers’ own pricing pages.

Do Kickbox credits expire?

Yes. Kickbox’s Master Services Agreement states that verification credits automatically expire one year from the date of purchase. ClearBounce credits do not expire, which matters if you buy in bulk for a discount and then verify in irregular bursts rather than steadily through the year.

What does Kickbox do better than ClearBounce?

Three things worth knowing. Kickbox refunds the credit when it cannot return a definitive result, where ClearBounce charges for it. Kickbox is SOC 2 certified, which some enterprise procurement teams require. And Kickbox sells human deliverability consulting alongside the software, which is a different kind of help from a dashboard.

Which should I choose for a small list?

For a one-off clean of a few thousand addresses, the price gap is the deciding factor: 1,000 verifications cost $4 with ClearBounce and $10 with Kickbox, and the ClearBounce credits will still be there next year. If your procurement process requires SOC 2 certification, that requirement will decide it for you regardless of price.

Check the numbers on your own list.

Verify a sample with both and compare the flags, not just the headline percentages. We will give you 100 credits to do it with.

No credit card required. Credits never expire.
