Built into GP Email Validator by Gravity Wiz

Verify Gravity Forms email addresses before the entry is saved

ClearBounce is now one of the validation services in GP Email Validator. Choose it, paste your API key, and every Email field is checked when the visitor presses Submit. Addresses that can’t receive mail get a clear message and never reach your entries.

100 free credits. No credit card required.

“They offer 100 verification credits and free Sandbox testing for any signup — which is surprisingly fast and painless. They’re also the cheapest verification service Email Validator integrates with!”

One settings screen, every Email field

Everything is configured in Forms › Settings › Email Validator. Once ClearBounce is selected, it checks every Email field on your site. To leave a field out, open it in the form editor and switch the validator off in its Perks tab.

Email Validator is automatically enabled on all Email fields by default. You can disable per field via the ‘Enable Email Validator’ field setting.

Choosing what to reject

Every address comes back with one of four results. Deliverable always passes. For the other three, the right call depends on what the form is for.

ResultWhat it meansOur suggestion
Undeliverable The address can’t receive mail: the mailbox doesn’t exist, the domain has no mail server, or it’s a typo like gmail.con. Reject on every form. Nobody who means to hear from you is turned away.
Risky The address may work but is low quality: disposable inboxes, catch-all domains that accept anything, and role addresses like info@ or sales@. Reject on giveaways, free trials and coupon forms. Allow it on B2B contact and lead forms, where company domains are often catch-all and info@ is a real inbox.
Unknown ClearBounce couldn’t get an answer this time, usually because the recipient’s mail server was slow or temporarily refusing checks. Allow it on most forms. Rejecting it turns away real people whose mail server happened to be slow.

Not sure where to start? Reject Undeliverable only. After a week, filter your entries by result, look at the Risky ones, and decide whether they’re worth keeping.

Set it up in four steps

  1. Install GP Email Validator

It’s part of Gravity Perks and available in every plan. Gravity Forms is required and sold separately.

  2. Create your ClearBounce API keys

Sign up and open Dashboard › API. Create two keys: a Live key and a Test (Sandbox) key.

  3. Test in Sandbox mode

In Forms › Settings › Email Validator, choose ClearBounce, select Sandbox and paste your cb_test_ key. Submit your form with the test addresses on this page. Nothing is verified for real and no credits are used.

  4. Switch to Live

Select Live, paste your cb_live_ key, pick your Rejection Criteria and save. From then on, every submitted address is checked for real.

The result stays with the entry

Every saved entry keeps its verification result. In Forms › Entries you’ll see a status icon next to the email address with the full details on hover, and you can filter entries by result.

To use the result somewhere else, like an admin notification or a confirmation message, add one of these merge tag modifiers to your Email field’s merge tag:

{Email:3:gpev_status}Risky
{Email:3:gpev_technical_details}Status, reason, score and flags

Replace 3 with the ID of your Email field.

Questions

What do I need to use it?

Gravity Forms, GP Email Validator (included in every Gravity Perks plan) and a ClearBounce account. You don’t need the ClearBounce WordPress plugin. GP Email Validator talks to ClearBounce directly.

How many credits does it use?

One credit each time an address is checked in Live mode. Empty fields, addresses stopped by your domain allow or block list, and everything in Sandbox mode use no credits. Each submission is a new check, so a form that’s sent again after fixing another field uses another credit. Credits start at $4 per 1,000 and never expire. See pricing.

What happens if I run out of credits or ClearBounce can’t be reached?

Your form keeps working. The entry is accepted without a ClearBounce verdict instead of being blocked. To top up in time, turn on credit alerts under Settings › Notifications in your ClearBounce dashboard.

Does it slow down my form?

The check runs once, when the visitor presses Submit, and usually takes a moment. If ClearBounce doesn’t answer in time, the entry goes through rather than keeping the visitor waiting.

What data is sent to ClearBounce?

From the form, only the email address being checked is sent, over HTTPS. Each check also shows up in the verification history in your ClearBounce dashboard. Details are in our privacy policy and DPA.

I don’t use Gravity Perks. Is there another way?

Yes. The free ClearBounce WordPress plugin also verifies Gravity Forms submissions, along with WooCommerce, Contact Form 7, WPForms and other form plugins.
