What MX, SPF and DMARC records do

These three DNS records control how a domain sends and receives email and how protected it is against spoofing:

• MX (Mail Exchange): tells other mail servers where to deliver messages for the domain. No MX record means the domain cannot receive email at all.
• SPF (Sender Policy Framework): a TXT record listing which servers are authorized to send mail as the domain. It helps receivers detect forged senders.
• DMARC: a policy at _dmarc.yourdomain.com that tells receivers what to do with mail that fails SPF or DKIM — monitor, quarantine or reject.
